| JEPSSEN’S
PHILOSOPHY AND MISSION |
Mankind, throughout history, has always fantasized about new tools
that would improve the quality of life. This has created the concept
of an ‘instrument’ (later called ‘computer’), which would be able
to take over from humans in many of the necessary daily activities.
Up till now, no computer ever created has been able to fulfill these
needs, modern computers having been relegated to data processing functions
only.
Jepssen is the first industry in the world that has managed to turn
fantasy into reality! Thanks to Jeppsen’s range of Total Project components,
a computer can finally be used for global communication, for controlling
any electric or electronic device in the household or place of work,
and even for monitoring the health of individuals.

| TOTAL PROJECT |
Jepssen has launched a revolutionary project, which is geared towards
realigning technology with its original purpose: namely, improving
people's quality of life.
An ' Ideal computer' can be created, thus enabling the user to have
a complete control system tailored to his/her specific needs. Thanks
to its modularity, this control system offers the possibility of turning
any idea into reality.
In fact, the Jepssen PC consists of several different building blocks
which can be added to a backbone structure. The final system is tailored
to the user's needs, and it can always grow and change to accommodate
his changing requirements. This is the most revolutionary aspect of
the Jepssen technology: the possibility of interaction between the
various building blocks to create any function that may be needed.
System architecture
The backbone structure
consists of a powerful and extremely versatile computer system: Jeppsen's
UNICO PC.
The system is completed by means of the additional building blocks
available in the Total Project range.
Some of the functions which can be implemented are listed below.
Total Control
 |
These modules allow
the system to interface and control a vast range of electrical and
electronic appliances, by means of an easy and intuitive windows based
interface. Commands can be imparted by means of the mouse, keyboard,
or even by voice, thanks to the sophisticated voice recognition software
bundled with the Jepssen UNICO PC systems.
A large range of commands is available. Objects can be controlled
by simple manual on and off switching, as well as timer function and
logic functions dependent on the state of other inputs and outputs.
The various appliances are controlled by means of special switching
modules. Different types of modules are available, include simple
relay switches and up to digital/ analogue inputs and outputs.
Three different modes of data transmission are available:
Radio wave communication - thus offering completely wireless
operation and very simple installation.
Modulated wave communication - the data is transferred on the
same cables that carry the power supply to the modules.
Dedicated cable - a standard twisted pair cable is used to effect
communication between the controller and module.
Some of the possibilities are:
Control of lighting equipment, motors, pumps, electric doors and gates,
heaters, air conditioners, machinery, alarm systems etc. etc., the
user's imagination being practically the only limit to the system's
possibilities.

| VIDEO AUDIO
PHONE |
The Video Audio Phone (VAP), available in various versions, is a module
created to integrate in one 'building block' all the functions required
for Video / Audio control and communication.
By means of the VAP, the home or office computer can become a powerful
entertainment system. It can be used to receive TV and radio transmissions
through antenna, cable or satellite. It can be used for video telephony
and video conferencing, and it can connect to any video source such
as CCD cameras, VHS cameras and VCRs, composite video (TV) and SVHS
signals, etc. This makes it the ideal solution for amateur or semi
professional video enthusiasts who need a low cost solution to be
able to perform video editing, recording of video clips and still
images on the computer, send clips and images by email, etc.
It can be used for teleconferencing through the internet, for setting
up surveillance systems with CCD cameras, and for virtually and video
/ audio transmission, storage or conversion required.

|
| CCD CAMERA |
|
A dedicated CCD
camera for use with surveillance systems, as well as video telephony
/ conferencing or as a normal pc camera. Since it is a CCD camera
with a VHS signal it gives a much higher signal quality than standard
USB web cameras at a very moderate cost.
|
| CCD RX CAMERA |
|
Has the same specifications of the standard CCD camera but includes
a radio transmitter that can send real time images up to a range of
100 metres, without requiring any wiring. |
| VIDEO HUB |
|
The Jepssen Video
Hub provides a complete solution for video control and communication
in one small portable package.
It can accept composite video and SVHS inputs, offering the same functions
of the VAP in a very small portable unit which connects to the PCs
or laptop's USB port. It also has a snap button for taking snap shots
while watching movie clips in real time.
|
| SENSOR Module |
|
The Sensor module is a real 'Portable Clinic", which when connected
to the PC can measure bodily parameters such as temperature, blood
pressure, hearing and vision. It can even be equipped with a 12
trace ECG and a Spirometer (breathing test apparatus).
This makes it the ideal solution for people with medical conditions
that require constant monitoring, as well as medical practitioners
who can have the option of producing a complete medical test wherever
it is needed.
The easy and intuitive windows based interface is used to control
and visualize all the test and results, and also offers a database
into which a medical practitioner can store all the data about his
patients together with their test results.
|
| CLEANWORLD
Module |
|
The Cleanworld module is a unique complete solution for real time
monitoring of environmental pollution. Several modules can be connected
together via land or satellite telephone lines, to keep under constant
observation any area of the territory as required.
|
| TOTAL AUTOMATION |
|
This is perhaps the most revolutionary project created by Jepssen.
Thanks to Total Automation, any family or company member can benefit
from a unique control system that can execute any command necessary.
Total Automation can in fact control a vast range of electrical and
electronic devices, inputs and actuators. It does not even require
cabling installation, since, as with the Total Control system, it
has the option of wireless radio control. No specialized equipment
is required - it simply connects to the computer through a USB port.
All that is then needed is to connect the appropriate radio controlled
modules to the actuators or sensor that need to be controlled. The
control software is windows based, and thus offers an intuitive interface
that any computer user can learn quickly and easily. No more trying
to learn antiquated and complicated languages such as Ladder Logic
and Statement List as in traditional PLC systems!
Commands can be imparted by any input device such as the standard
mouse, keyboard, joystick and even by voice.

 |
Main characteristics of Total Automation
Connects to the PC through a standard USB port
Several T.A. units can be connected to the same PC for increasing
the system's capabilities.
Three different communication methods are available, and all
three can be used simultaneously: Radio control, Modulated wave (communication
through power supply lines), and Dedicated twisted pair.
Can operate independently of the computer. The T.A. system
is programmed with desktop computer or notebook, after which it can
operate autonomously without the need to leave it connected to a computer.
Programming and control of all drives and resources on the
computer is managed with the same Total Automation software used to
program the logic functions of the system. Hence all computer components
such as video acquisition card, fax modem, hard drives, CD / DVD drives,
USB cameras, printers etc. can be integrated with the Total Automation
system.
Commands can be imparted via standard input devices such as
the keyboard, mouse, joystick as well as by voice, by means of the
Vocal Automation System (VAS) software.
Vocal messages can be programmed for total human machine interaction,
for example programming vocal confirmation to the operator's vocal
commands.
Personalised log files can be generated to keep track of critical
events, as well as the generation of error / alarm log files.
Macro key combinations can be programmed, to execute complex
functions with a simple key press.
All devices can be controlled manually, or programmed to function
automatically by means of timer control or logic functions dependent
on the state of other inputs and outputs.
Software variables such as flags and counters can be used for
even greater programming flexibility.
Monitoring and surveillance functions can be performed via
the Video Audio Phone module, allowing the acquisition of AVI video
clips or BMP still images.
